Caitlin Clark Is Chasing Another Record

23

The University of Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark has scored 3,593 career points which is very close to the highest score done by Pete Maravich. Now the question is when will Caitlin Clark break the all-time NCAA men’s and women’s basketball record?

Pete Maravich scored 3,667 at Louisiana State University (LSU). This is still the highest score of all-time NCAA men’s and women’s basketball records.

Maravich only played three years at LSU. He earned an average of 44.2 points per game and his record is still remarkable. He achieved his record in the era before the three-point line and shot clock existed. Clark’s wonderful performance made the sports lover draw a comparison between Clark and Maravich. Clark’s superstardom already provides her the nickname ‘Ponytail Pete.’

Clark becomes women’s college basketball’s leading scorer. Previously the highest scoring record was 3,527. The score was proudly owned by Kelsey Plum. Clark broke the women’s college basketball scoring record by playing against the Michigan Wolverines. She made history in trademark fashion and dropped a career-high 49 in the process.

Based on her, Clark seems the most promising star who can break the record. The 22-year-old has the opportunity to create a new record at home versus Ohio State in Iowa’s final regular season game going to start on March 2024. However, if she elects to forgo the 2024 WNBA draft the opportunity could be out of the water. Due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, she has an additional year of college eligibility. So, it is better to utilize the opportunity to make a new history.

The possibility of breaking a new record may create an attractive prospect for Clark. Because now college athletes can make money through using their personal brand. She just needs to take bigger challenges on the professional level to prove herself as the standout star.
