The Red Sox family has suffered another devastating loss. Less Than 5 months after Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield’s death his wife Stacy Wakefield died following her health battle. She was only 53 years old. The Major League Baseball team confirmed the news.
Late pitcher Tim Wakefield was suffering from brain cancer and died at the age of 57 less than five months ago. The Red Sox family shared a statement on social media regarding Stacy Wakefield’s death.
The statement expressed, “It is with deep sadness that we share that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt, Stacy, passed away today at her home in Massachusetts,” The statement also explained, “She was surrounded by her family and dear friends, as well as her wonderful caretakers and nurses. The loss is unimaginable, especially in the wake of losing Tim just under five months ago. Our hearts are beyond broken.”
The post also included a photo of Tim and Stacy together and continued, “We will remember Stacy as a strong, loving, thoughtful and kind person, who was as down-to-earth as they come. We feel so lucky to have had her in our lives, and we take comfort in the fact that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life.”
However, the statement didn’t clarify the cause of Stacy’s death. Stacy had been fighting a health battle for years. The family statement also mentioned, “We would like to thank all of Stacy’s doctors, nurses, and caretakers who helped her from diagnosis to today. We are eternally grateful for your unmatched care and support.”
Stacy and Tim had a son Trevor Wakefield and a daughter Brianna Wakefield. Tim was a famed knuckleballer and a happy family man. He won two World Series with the Red Sox. They were also known for their charity work. They established the Red Sox Foundation. After Stacy’s passing the organization shared a heartfelt message, “We are so grateful to have been allowed to spend time with Stacy and Tim over the years,” The hospital’s president Joseph Mitchell also paid tribute to the couple.
