Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso removed all the speculation regarding his potential move to another club. Previously it was rumored that he is going to join his former clubs Liverpool or Bayern Munich. However, the Spaniard said that he was committed to staying with the Bundesliga leaders.

Alonso has a contract with Leverkusen until 2026. After leading his team to three trophies, he became the target of top clubs. Alonso shared his thoughts in a recent interview, “It’s been a season with a lot of speculation regarding my future. We’ve had many games, we’ve been busy and focused. I used the international break to reflect better and make a decision.”

He also said, “Last week I had a meeting (with club officials) and informed them of the decision to continue being coach of Bayer Leverkusen… I feel this is the right place to be for me as a young coach.”

Both Liverpool and Bayern are planning to replace their coaches at the end of the season. So, Alonso had been linked with these two clubs after the unbeaten performance of his team this season. Liverpool boss Juergen Klopp previously announced that he would like to step down from his position. Furthermore, Bayern decided that they were cutting short Thomas Tuchel’s contract.

Alonso said about this issue, “It wouldn’t be correct for me to speak about other clubs in this situation. They are clubs I respect, I played there, and I have strong links to them, but it’s not correct for me to speak about them right now,” He also added, “It’s more about the conviction I have that I am in the right place, at Bayer Leverkusen, that I want to keep growing with the club and the players.”

Additionally, Klopp supported Alonso’s decision to stay at Leverkusen and said, “I did the same and never regretted it. Xabi is doing an incredible job at Leverkusen,”

The German manager also said, “He will probably keep the team together this year, it’s not always like that. I understand he wants to do that.”
